Your pension can grow to have a significant value, just like a property or your savings.

But what if you pass away before using it? What would happen to your money then?

Your pension doesn’t disappear when you die. You can tell us who you would like to receive your pension pot if you die by naming a beneficiary.

This can be done quickly and easily using the Creative Pension Trust Member Portal.

Find out more below.

What is a beneficiary?

A beneficiary is a person who receives your pension fund after you pass away.

You can nominate anyone you wish to be your beneficiary, such as:

  • Your spouse or civil partner
  • Your child
  • A close friend

You can also nominate more than one beneficiary, so it could be a combination of the above.

The benefits of naming a beneficiary

  • Help make sure your money goes to the right person – You want to make your own decisions about where your money goes, rather than leave it to chance, and be confident our trustees understand your wishes when they are making the necessary checks to finalise any payment.
  • Take care of your loved ones – If you know your chosen recipients will be looked after if the worst happens, you can enjoy greater peace of mind and confidence.
  • Make sure your money is shared fairly – By naming your own beneficiaries, you know there will be appropriate payments for each person.
  • Ease stress for your loved ones after you die – If you’ve named your beneficiaries, there will be far less admin and stress for your loved ones to deal with.
  • Your loved ones can get the money more quickly – If you’ve already named your beneficiaries, it can make it faster to get the money paid to them. There will still be some checks, but our trustees will have your wishes safely recorded.

What happens if I don’t name a beneficiary?

Our trustees will spend time finding potential beneficiaries to your pension.

They’d then make the final decision on who receives payment, which may not reflect what you want to happen to your money.
